...?

Where do you put your confidence?

Who, or what do you put your trust in?

Is it your job? Your "status" Your money? The clothes you wear? Your family? Your looks (vanity) Yourself?

Where is your confidence? Your trust?

You know it's really sad that as christians. Many of us still hold onto our old ways of thinking! We are still "earthly" minded. Instead of being heavenly minded. Holding on to the "old" things we trusted in. Rather than where our trust should be put now!

And so when the hard times arise in our lives. Instead of putting our confidence in God. We put it in other things! Our money. Our status. Ourselves. Those we can influence, etc.

Things that cannot help us. "Fleeting" foundations that we can never count on! The things of the world, that dissappointed us before we came to Christ. And did not Jesus tell us. That a house not built upon a firm foundation. Would not stand?

  “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great"

                    (Luke 6:46-49 NKJV)

Yet, we still look to other things. Other than God. We are still building on the "old foundations" that never worked for us before!

But is not the Lord our "chief" (and only) cornerstone? Our firm foundation?

 "This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone."

                      (Acts 4:12 NKJV)

He is! But yet we have such an awful tendency. To try and remove Him from His place! As if He is no longer sovereign in the universe.

                                   ...Or sovereign in our lives!

But He is God! No one can, nor could, nor will ever be able to remove Him from His throne!

He IS sovereign:

 "The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty;
         The LORD is clothed,
         He has girded Himself with strength.
         Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved."

                     (Psalm 93:1 NKJV)

 "God reigns over the nations;
         God sits on His holy throne."

               (Psalm 47:8 NKJV)

 "Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns;
         The world also is firmly established,
         It shall not be moved;
         He shall judge the peoples righteously.”

                  (Psalm 96:10 NKJV)

 "The LORD shall reign forever
         Your God, O Zion, to all generations.

         Praise the LORD!"

                  (Psalm 146:10 NKJV)

But we get so caught up with the things of this life. That our eyes are taken off Him. And put on the circumstances around us!

We become so engrossed with our problems. That we miss the fact that He is our confidence! Not us, our "looks". Our "status". Not those around us. Not our jobs. The money we have (or can make). Our homes our familys, etc.

In fact God is not impressed with ANY of these things:

  "Have you not known?
      Have you not heard?
      Has it not been told you from the beginning?
      Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
        It is He who sits above the circle of the earth,
      And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers,
      Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain,
      And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in
        He brings the princes to nothing;
      He makes the judges of the earth useless
        Scarcely shall they be planted,
      Scarcely shall they be sown,
      Scarcely shall their stock take root in the earth,
      When He will also blow on them,
      And they will wither,
      And the whirlwind will take them away like stubble
        “ To whom then will you liken Me,
      Or to whom shall I be equal?” says the Holy One
        Lift up your eyes on high,
      And see who has created these things,
      Who brings out their host by number;
      He calls them all by name,
      By the greatness of His might
      And the strength of His power;
      Not one is missing."

               (Isaiah 40:21-26 NKJV)

So why would we put our confidence in anything Other than Him? The King of the universe?

Afterall, remember? He did create all things:

 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

                        (Genesis 1:1 NKJV)

So this being true. Why would we ever put our confidence, in anything other than Him? Can we create? No! Can we change the times? No! The seasons? No! Can we control our lives? No! Others around us? No! ...So why do we keep trying?

Could it be, because we still WANT to control our lives? ...Even knowing that we have little control! But if we were honest. We must admit this. That we have NO control at all!

It all goes back to ur sinful nature. We keep trying to take the place of God! Trying to control, what we "like to call our "fate". Our lives. When we should be submitting to Him! Now, you may feel a finger pointing at you. But be assured there are three pointing back at me! None us us are inoccent in this.

So perhaps we should take a moment. And think about this carefully. And ask ourselves, "what have we ever really controlled in our lives?". And if we are honest? Nothing! So we just need to accept this fact. The fact that we are NOT in control of our lives. That the God who created the universe is!

And we should start putting our confidence in Him:

 "for the LORD will be your confidence
        and will keep your foot from being snared."

                      (Proverbs 3:26 NIV)

 "Blessed is the man
       who makes the LORD his trust,
       who does not look to the proud,
       to those who turn aside to false gods."

                   (Psalm 40:4 NIV)

 "Trust in the LORD with all your heart
       and lean not on your own understanding;

    in all your ways acknowledge him,
       and he will make your paths straight."

              (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV)

"But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
       whose confidence is in him.'

            (Jeremiah 17:7 NIV)

"So we say with confidence,
    "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
       What can man do to me?"

               (Hebrews 13:6 NIV)

  "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us."

                         (1 John 5:14 NIV)

Why would we EVER put our confidence in created "things"? Ourselves, or anyone else?

 "Stop trusting in man,
        who has but a breath in his nostrils.
        Of what account is he?"

             (Isaiah 2:22 NIV)

 "He who trusts in himself is a fool,
        but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe."

                   (Proverbs 28:26 NIV)

 "Whoever trusts in his riches will fall,
       but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf."

                   (Proverbs 11:28 NIV)

Why would we EVER do this? Afterall, doesn't it sound just foolish? But we all do it!

So we need to start turning to Him. Putting our trust in the Creator! Our Creator!! And NOT in created things!!!

 "Do not fear, nor be afraid;
       Have I not told you from that time, and declared  it?
       You are My witnesses.
       Is there a God besides Me?
       Indeed there is no other Rock;
       I know not one.’”

           (Isaiah 44:8 NKJV)

 "Trust in the LORD forever,
        for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.'

                     (Isaiah 26:4 NIV)
